Glenwood Middle School recently held an Empty Bowls event to raise funds for Grassroots, Howard County’s 24-hour crisis intervention center and shelter for the homeless. Guests paid $5 to choose a bowl made by sixth grade students and enjoy desserts made by students in Family and Consumer Science classes. Teachers donated bowls they created to a silent auction. Admission fees and the silent auction brought in $1,147 to support services and programs at Grassroots. Attendees included Guidance Counselor Kelli Brandt, holding Kayleigh O’Connor, the daughter of a Glenwood Middle School colleague.
