Grassroots Elects Four New Board Members

CallCenterGrassroots Crisis Intervention Center has elected four new members to its Board of Directors. The members include Sonya Bajwa, John William Cheek, Jr., Sheila E. Donahue and Alice H. Wade.

Columbia resident Bajwa is the Chief Financial Officer of the Abilities Network in Baltimore. Cheek, also of Columbia, is serving as an ordained minister after a career in education and the military. Donahue, a nurse and educator who lives in Eldersburg, is the director of Women’s and Children’s Services at Howard County General Hospital. Wade of Ellicott City is retired and served as the Deputy Chief Actuary of the Social Security Administration.

Re-elected officers include Mary Lasky, President; Sheryll Ziporkin, Vice President; Tim Samuel, Treasurer; and Rochelle Michaux Conway, Secretary.

Grassroots provides the county’s only emergency shelter and 24-hour crisis intervention services. Professional crisis counselors staff Grassroots’ 24-hour hotline; see walk-in clients in need of immediate counseling; operate the Mobile Crisis Team, which responds to community emergencies; manage the county’s emergency shelter and other activities to help people achieve a positive resolution of their crisis situation.
