Leola Dorsey Community Resource Center Opens

The Leola Dorsey Community Resource Center is open. The new center is designed to assist people who are homeless. Located at 10390 Guilford Road in Jessup, the center includes expanded day resource services operated by Grassroots on the lower level and 35 single efficiency apartments managed by Volunteers of America Chesapeake upstairs. The center was built by the Howard County Housing Commission. It is named for the late Howard County civil rights leader Leola Dorsey who grew up nearby.

Since its opening in August, the number of visitors to to the center has increased over the number typically seen at the original Day Resource Center, which the new center replaces. In FY17, 877 people visited the center for meals, showers, medical and other services. For information, contact Manager Melinda Becker, 301-776-9900.
